yeah, I am trying to re-learn alot of the Flash "actionscripting" myself since I hadn`t used it in a few years. Are you looking to do a site completely in Flash or mix it up w/ html?

You might want to just check out the tutorials on Flash. A good site is www.tutorialized.com

I know there is nothing like actually having a 1-on-1 training session with someone but hopefully this will help you with some of your questions. :-)

cheers!

Wow you went into some good detail about the steps and what to think about when building a site. I like the way you worded everything, and the way that i build a site i tend to think about a lot of similiar things that you wrote down. Thanks.

"we might bump into something that is totally irrelevant–but incredibly cool–and we ended up using that information for our next project! who knows?"
That comment was my favorite of your blog. I always loved it when I end up coming across something totally out-of-the-blue and can use it in a design. Sometimes that little something can make your whole design, logo, etc. unique.
I agree that doing thumbnails(since they are made to be done quickly) and doing research makes your design process stronger. Here at school we get a week to do our projects, sometimes longer than that. After experiencing a little bit of the real world in an internship, I have realized that you don't have much time to do those things; ometimes less than a day. I take it for granted here at school that we get at least a week for a project.

I think the article is great, I am responding to the article instead of just summarizing the whole article itself. It was really helpful to see how different every designer solve their design problems. :)

I don't quite understand what you mean on the last question... I am gonna try to answer it... I think, as students, we learn from the professionals and teachers the method that is proven working to solve a design problem, I don't think people get stuck in the rut of designing... but I do think that some people are just scared/too lazy to explore new options and open themselves up to possibilities that design field offers.
Designing, like drawings, it needs practice to make it perfect. ( or close to perfect, I don't believe in perfect design, I always believe that there's more than 1 answer for a design problem, and there's always things that we can improve in design.)

I hope that sort of answer the question... :)

so what do you think of the article itself? was it helpfull? I see you have gone into detail about the whole things that were discussed but you didnt give me an opinion of the article. MAybe i misunderstood the assignment. Anyways about your whole article, i can relate to the no skills in design. I am one of the people who strugle with that aspect. but i am working on it. If being different as you say is the norm why do you think people get stuck in teh rut of designing just like everyone else does?

Hey, awesome response! Put mine to shame, anyways, you definitely did a very thorough analysis over the whole article, which was nice. You basically went more in to depth over the whole thing than I did. I liked your outlook over the whole idea about how the design process and exercising in ANY field can benefit you, and others as well, like you said heh. For me personally, i do agree that the research part of designing is the most crucial, but just for me persoanlly, it is the worst one for me, I think just because I dont know where to start, and maybe get bored easily, but the thumbnail and sketching part I love, because it gives you a chance to finally combine your ideas together on paper, and see what you get! Anyways, awesome response!
